Who we are:
Our network of independents in Georgia is diverse. We work with and are inspired by the Committee for a Unified Independent Party, Inc. (CUIP), a national strategy center and organizing hub that designs, executes and supports cutting edge tactics to develop America’s growing independent movement. CUIP mounts political, legal, legislative and organizing challenges to partisan control of the political process and has pioneered methods of organizing independents without a political party, creating independent voter associations to project the voice of the 35% plus of the electorate that considers itself independent.
Independents are not “swing voters” who exist to be wooed and swayed by one or the other major party. Independents have strongly held beliefs about how partisanship and ideological labeling are corrupting and constraining progress. Independents defy traditional political labels.
America’s independent voters are concerned about the corruption in our government – 90% indicate that the reason they became independent is because they view the system to be broken. Most support legislative efforts directed toward political reform that will make government more honest and recognize more voters’ voices. Independents share support for radical structural reform of the electoral process and of government.
I’ve had enough! After many years of participation in the Democratic Party, my heart is broken that so many in that party so nonchalantly accept disenfranchisement of voters (for whatever reason) — especially after what happened to the party nominee in the last presidential election — except this time it’s within the party and it’s in TWO states! Who is next??? My principles will not allow me to support this in any form or fashion. Going Independent seems to be the only real choice I have.
I totally concur with you Patricia. I had come to feel that participating in the two parties was increasingly compromising the interest in involving ordinary citizens in helping to take this country in a positive, growthful and inclusionary direction. Good ideas gets compromised away or become fodder for partisan political theater, and citizens are left out.
I hope we create other opportunities to speak and build with independents. Please feel free to sign up for Talk Talk to here about more conversations that independents are having about where to go, and what is being done around the country. Thanks for posting.
FYI – The link to sign up for Talk/Talk (an independent response to the Sunday political talk shows) is http://www.independentvoting.org/news/
